It's a Crying Shame

We recently consulted with an owner of  a 4-yr old Thoroughbred Filly.

The filly was in race training for 2 years, but never started in a single race.

The filly was evaluated and sent home by the docs at New Bolton Veterinary hospital The diagnosis was bone fusion in the sacro-illiac area.  Career over.

The filly presented with extreme all over muscular soreness and a bad attitude.  Given the state of her appearance, the bad attitude was justified...

She was atrophied behind the withers and and subluxated in her lumbar and sacro-iliac regions.  A classic example of the damage caused by half-tree exercise saddles.

In spite of the bad attitude and muscular-skeletal problems, we saw her beauty and spirit.   She has a cooper color red haircoat, a beautiful face and an intelligent eye...taking a closer look, I asked ..."Is she related to Secretariat?"  Yes...he is her grandfather on her dam's side....

Here stands a filly with excellent bloodlines and every reason to be a winner....the one thing that stood in her way was the arrogance and ignorance of the people responsible for her training...the half-tree exercise saddle damaged her back beyond repair...everyone in the deal got paid for their efforts and at the end of the day it's just too bad that filly couldn't do it....

Now the owner wants to get the filly out of pain so she can begin her new career as a broodmare....
